I took my 4 children to see the Simpson movie this past weekend and I have to be honest with you – I was completely under whelmed.
I am a huge Simpson fan dating back to when the characters were filler content on the Tracy Ullman show. Here is a little Simpson trivia for you – the first lines spoken by Simpson characters were…
Bart Simpson: Uh, Dad?
Homer Simpson: What?
Bart Simpson: What is the mind? Is it just a system of impulses? Or is it something tangible?
Homer Simpson: Relax. What is mind? No matter. What is matter? Never mind!
This was typical Simpson’s fodder as the short clips were run before and after commercial breaks.
Any way, back to the movie - I can’t speak to the kinds of marketing every town was subject to but some of the spots I saw reported that it was 4 times the Homerier. At 87 minutes long it falls short of that mark by 1 minute as the running time of most, unedited for time, episodes of the Simpson’s are 22 minutes.
While there were some good laughs the movie didn’t surpass some of my favorite episodes of old. This movie left too many things out like what happened to the “Spider – Pig” or the sink hole?
About the only thing that wasn’t a let down with this night at the movies was all of the previews and commercials prior to the film starting, there were typically too many of those. My youngest son and I began eating our nachos when the previews began and were finishing the last of those off before the movie started.
